Vegetarian diet helps improve sugar regulation in diabetes

A recent study shows that a low-fat and completely plant-based diet has positive effects in people with type 2 diabetes. They followed a diet without animal products and added fats for 16 weeks, with plenty of vegetables, fruits, legumes, and grains. This resulted in an improvement in blood sugar levels and a reduction in fat in the liver and around the organs.

Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which the body is less responsive to insulin, the hormone that helps sugar from the blood be absorbed into the cells. Due to the accumulation of fat around organs and in the liver, this regulation often works less well. The diet in this study allowed participants to eat until they were satisfied without counting calories.

The participants lost an average of six kilograms, mainly due to the reduction in fat mass. This not only improved their blood sugar levels, but some people were also able to reduce their medication. Additionally, the amount of harmful substances in the skin that can accelerate aging and cause tissue damage decreased.

This study shows that a plant-based diet not only helps with weight loss, but also improves the body's functioning in diabetes. For anyone who wants to become healthier with age, it is important to know that nutrition plays a powerful role in maintaining health.
